The SUMO Ni98 welding electrode (AWS A5.15 ENi-CI standard) is a 2.6 mm graphite-coated stick electrode with a pure nickel core (98% Nickel), specifically designed for repairing gray cast iron. The resulting weld deposit offers high ductility and low stress, providing outstanding crack resistance. Its main highlight is that the weld bead can be machined or drilled with machine tools extremely easily.

Feature

Pure Nickel Core: Contains up to 98% nickel, providing a soft, ductile weld bead with superior crack resistance.

Precision Control: With its 2.6 mm diameter, it operates at low welding currents, reducing heat input and preventing the cast iron workpiece from becoming brittle or cracking further.

Superior Machinability: The resulting weld bead has very low hardness and can be easily turned, drilled, or tapped just like the original base metal.

Stable Arc & Low Spatter: Provides a smooth and stable arc with good molten metal fluidity, bonding exceptionally well with the original cast iron even in older repair jobs.

Low Stress: Helps reduce internal stresses as the weld cools down, minimizing the risk of post-weld cracking.

Application

Suitable for repairing cracks, porosity, or fractures in machinery parts made of gray cast iron.

Used for repairing cylinder heads, engine blocks, machine bases, and pump housings that are thin or require high precision.

Surfacing and build-up welding to restore worn metal on areas intended for subsequent machining.

Recommendation: Clean the workpiece surface thoroughly to remove oil and dirt. Weld in short beads of about 1-2 cm, then lightly peen with a hammer to relieve stresses while the weld bead is still hot.
