The D-16857 drill bit belongs to the HSS-Co (Cobalt) series, which is Makita's premium product line. This 13.0 mm drill bit is the largest size according to the DIN 338 standard featuring a straight shank equal to the 13 mm body diameter. It is designed to handle drilling into thick, hard metals that generate high heat. HSS-Co (High-Speed Steel with Cobalt): An alloy with approximately 5% Cobalt (Co5) in high-speed steel enhances hot hardness properties, allowing the drill bit to withstand high temperatures generated during drilling of stainless steel or hard metals extremely well. Fully Ground: The manufacturing process uses full-length grinding (Fully Ground), providing sharp cutting edges, high dimensional accuracy, and uniform shape, which are essential for drilling large holes in hard metals. 135° Split Point: The 135-degree split point tip is the standard for hard metal and large-size drill bits, allowing the bit to start drilling into the workpiece immediately without center punching (Self-centering) and reducing the force required for drilling.
